Human-robot collaboration with Responsible Robots

The goal for safe human-robot collaboration are robots that actively make decisions not to harm human beings. The current approaches to solve the safety issue in human-robot collaboration, assume that the robots response to danger is reactively passive.


PPM researchers propose a system for safe human-robot collaboration with active, so called Responsible Robots. A robotic system that decides its action also on the basis of safety, and actively avoids actions that could harm the human, takes responsibility for safe collaboration. Thus, the robot shares the responsibility with the human operator, and relieves him from this enormous pressure. The operator can then focus on performing his tasks efficiently, rather than being afraid of getting injured by the robot. PPM is currently testing the new approach in the laboratory, and the technology to be industrialized during 2016.
