Support / Project Management

Innovative projects require innovative and structured project management

Graph showing that the ability to influence project success decreases over time while the cost of implementing changes increases

A project is a temporary organization established to create a new product, service, or solution within defined time and cost constraints.

This temporary structure differs from “business as usual,” which typically consists of ongoing activities designed to deliver established products or services.

In practice, project management therefore requires a more dynamic approach, combining structured methods with the ability to adapt as the project develops.

Project management is the process of leading and coordinating a team to achieve defined project objectives within given constraints. The primary constraints are typically scope, time, and budget. The challenge is to allocate the necessary resources effectively and apply them in a way that ensures the project goals are achieved within these boundaries.

Managing within project constraints

The challenge is to allocate the necessary resources effectively and apply them in a way that ensures the project goals are achieved within the defined boundaries.

When the target, technology, and scope of work are well known from previous experience, this can be relatively straightforward.

Traditional projects

When the target, technology, and scope of work are well known from previous experience, project management can be relatively straightforward.

Such projects are often referred to as traditional projects and can typically be managed through a sequential, task-by-task approach.

New technology requires a more adaptive approach

Adaptive and extreme projects

The introduction of new technology inevitably brings new and partly unknown challenges.

In some cases, even the project objectives or scope must be adjusted as new knowledge is gained during execution.

Continuous risk reduction

In these types of projects, often described as adaptive or extreme projects, continuous risk reduction becomes particularly important.

The aim is to identify uncertainties early and implement necessary changes while the cost and consequences of change are still limited.

Experience from demanding development projects

PPM has extensive experience in successfully delivering challenging development projects involving the introduction of new technologies.

We have learned that one of the most important success factors is open and collaborative cooperation with our customers, combined with careful, step-by-step implementation of new solutions.

Our project management principles

  • Identify uncertainty as early as possible
  • Reduce technical and operational risk continuously
  • Maintain close and open cooperation with the customer
  • Introduce new technology step by step
  • Adapt project scope when new knowledge requires it
  • Keep project objectives, time, and cost under active control

The EUREKA Method

Through our participation in the European committee that developed the EUREKA Method, PPM can offer its customers a structured and modern project management methodology designed to support the successful execution of even complex and demanding projects.
