Students

Study robotic challenges with real value for the elderly care.

PPM Robotics AS welcomes students who want to explore, service robots, software, safety, interaction design and healthcare technology.

Student projects at PPM are connected to real challenges: how robots can support care staff, operate safely in shared environments and become useful tools in nursing-home logistics.

We welcome students for on-site student projects or thesis work at PPM, or remote collaboration through their local university.

Student opportunities

From study project to real-world robotics

PPM has long experience with including students in R&D projects and has an international research and development network in Europe and Asia.

Whether your background is software, robotics, cybernetics, mechatronics, design, psychology or healthcare, there will be interesting topics to develop together with PPM.

Real environments create real research questions

Nursing homes are complex environments. Robots must operate around residents, staff, visitors, elevators and narrow corridors.

This creates a lot of interesting topcs for student wanting challenges within technology, safety, interaction, workflow analysis or service development.

PPM is continuously engaged in international research projects to bring cost-effective, state-of-the-art solutions to our customers. Our close academic network spans Europe, Japan, South Korea, and Vietnam.

Relevant student backgrounds

  • Robotics and autonomous systems
  • Computer science and software development
  • Cybernetics, control systems and sensor technology
  • Mechatronics, electronics and mechanical design
  • Human-robot interaction, psychology and user studies
  • Nursing, elderly care and healthcare workflow understanding

Possible student topics

Robot navigation

Explore how service robots move through corridors, doors, elevators and shared areas in a predictable and patient friendly way.

Human-robot interaction

Study how staff, residents and visitors understand robot behaviour, signals, movement patterns and user interfaces.

Safety and risk assessment

Work with route evaluation, blind zones, emergency procedures, residual risk and practical safety measures for care environments.

Workflow analysis

Analyse laundry, waste, supply refill or floor-to-floor logistics to identify where robots can create real operational value.

Software integration

Develop or test software that connects robot systems, operator interfaces, support tools and external infrastructure.

Service development

Explore how service robots can be introduced in a way that supports staff routines, training and acceptance, and most important; becomes a natural part of the work sharing the nursing home.

What we look for

We look for motivated students who are curious, practical and interested in applying technology to real human environments. You do not need to know everything before contacting us — the most important thing is a willingness to learn, test ideas and work with meaningful problems.
